NORM remediation is the process of identifying, assessing, and cleaning up soil, equipment, and materials that contain concentrated naturally occurring radioactive material above background levels. It involves removal or containment of radioactive contamination to meet regulatory cleanup standards. 

Radioactive soil is evaluated for radionuclide concentrations and then excavated, segregated, and packaged based on classification and regulatory criteria. Impacted soil is either transported to a permitted disposal facility or otherwise managed under state remediation guidelines.

Remediation is often required when contamination levels exceed regulatory or safety thresholds set by state or federal authorities. Cleanup may be mandated after discovery during operations, inspections, or as part of permitting and regulatory compliance.
