Permitted Oil and Gas Waste Management for Regulated Waste Streams

Request a consultation to discuss non-hazardous NORM/TENORM E&P waste generated from your operations. Federal NORM Services supports scale, sludge, produced water solids, filters, and large equipment such as vessels, tanks, and heater treaters through structured waste characterization, disposal coordination, and documented handling pathways.

Our services include solidification, segmentation, disposal, waste separation, and decontamination. We prioritize accurate documentation, disciplined coordination, and alignment with applicable regulatory requirements.

Regulatory Authorization & Accepted E&P NORM Waste Streams

Federal NORM Services is authorized by the Texas Railroad Commission to handle specific oil and gas exploration and production waste. Unlike general waste providers, we manage permitted E&P waste with documented processes aligned with Texas requirements and the operational realities of oilfield projects.

The facility is permitted to manage the following regulated E&P waste materials in accordance with applicable Texas regulations.

  1. Water-based drilling fluid and associated cuttings
  2. Oil-based drilling fluid and associated cuttings
  3. Tank bottoms from gas plants, crude oil Reclamation Plants, crude oil separation facilities, and crude oil production facilities, which do not exceed 7% in oil content as determined by Standard American Petroleum Institute (API) “shake out” test
  4. Soils contaminated with produced water, crude oil, or condensate
  5. Hydraulic fracturing flow-back water and associated solids including sand
  6. Produced formation sands
  7. Absorbent pads from crude oil spills from production operations
  8. Hydrocarbon, solids, sands, and emulsion generated from separators, fluid treatment vessels, and production impoundments
  9. Solid waste from gas dehydration and sweetening activities (spent filter media, molecular sieves, precipitated amine sludge, iron sponge, and hydrogen sulfide scrubber sludge)
  10. Contaminated liners and bottoms from reserve and washout pits
  11. Contaminated soils from crude oil spills, pipeline and saltwater spills from production operations
  12. Pit liners and solids
  13. Pipeline-associated wastes (i.e. pigs)
  14. Other hydrocarbon waste, as defined by Statewide Rule 57(b)(2)
  15. Well screen outs (Iridium-92, Scandium-46, Antimony-124, Gold-198, and other commonly used oilfield tracers)
  16. Oil and gas waste containing Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM)

Each authorized waste stream receives detailed documentation and coordinated disposal through permitted pathways. Focus on your operations while we support the documentation, handling, and project oversight required to keep work moving.

Produced Water Residual Solids

Produced Water Residual Solids

Produced Water Residual Solids

Solids remaining after produced water separation, which contain concentrated minerals and radionuclides, are managed using specialized methods that comply with applicable regulatory requirements.

Scale and Sludge

Produced Water Residual Solids

Produced Water Residual Solids

NORM-impacted scale and sludge from pipes, tanks, and separators are managed under structured waste protocols for safe handling, documentation, and permitted disposal.

Contaminated Soils

Produced Water Residual Solids

Contaminated Soils

Spill- or release-impacted soils are excavated, characterized, and managed through documented handling and disposal pathways aligned with applicable regulatory requirements.

Tank Bottoms

NORM Impacted Equipment

Contaminated Soils

Residues and semi-solid BS&W at tank or vessel bottoms with regulated radionuclide content are coordinated for safe transport and disposal through approved facilities using documented handling pathways.

Decommissioning Waste

NORM Impacted Equipment

NORM Impacted Equipment

Decommissioning generates waste, including affected equipment, piping, and surface materials. We thoroughly characterize, manage, and dispose of affected materials through structured handling, documentation, and coordination designed to support safe dismantling and project continuity.

Oil and gas operations produce regulated wastes like drilling fluids, produced water solids, scale, sludge, contaminated soil, and radioactive materials (NORM, TENORM). Some waste may be exempt from some rules but still requires proper management.

Yes. We support radioactive waste management, including NORM and TENORM, through characterization, documented handling, transport coordination, and disposal.

Yes. We provide detailed, audit-ready regulatory documents for each waste stream. Our documentation supports regulatory alignment, audit readiness, and clear project records.

We coordinate licensed transport and approved facility placement for waste. Our process supports documented handling, authorized facility placement, and organized project coordination.

We deliver expertly managed waste solutions in the Permian Basin and beyond, supporting permitted disposal, transport coordination, and disciplined project execution.
